About Lori Shyba
In no particular order, Lori has been a videogamegame and web designer, university professor, theatre impresario, video producer, magazine publisher, advertising art director, TV talent, digital art curator, sports car enthusiast, parent, president of Sundial Media, and cowgirl among other things. Her MFA is in performance and multimedia from the University of Calgary, Department of Drama, and her PhD in Intractive Mediafocused on the influence that on digital playspaces with social impact. Among her recent artistic endeavours is the forum theatre event Spies in the Oil Sands, and its spin-off videogame “The Pipeline Pinball Energy Thrill Ride Game.” These doctoral case studies synthesize theatrical storytelling with serious games and interactivity to provide audience-players with experiential joyrides through hydrocarbon- and sustainable-energy consumption and production. She is also interested in cultural aspects of human-computer interaction (HCI), play in virtual environments, and experiential pedagogy. Recent contracts include the University of Lethbridge, the University of Calgary, and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
